Kaohsiung
View Kaohsiung Cruise Terminal in a larger map
Every season some cruise ships will call on Kaohsiung, especially those on shorter cruises from Hong Kong. Ships dock near the oldest part of the port and town, and it is easy to get around by the KRT Metro. Some stations are worth a visit: very modern and artistic, such as the Glass Dome in Formosa Boulevard station and the Central Park escalator and station roof.
You can get around by yourself between downtown and Zuoying, but for the 1000 Buddha's of the old and new and immense Fo Guang Shan monastery: take the cruise tour as it will take most if not all of your day, the place is huge and way out of town.
You can have a preview of the temple atmosphere by visiting the original FGS Keelung headquarters, the Ji-Le monastery, a three blocks walk from the cruise terminal in Keelung.
